Board Members
Elaine Cooper
Elaine and her husband, Ian, worked alongside Ranald and Susan Macaulay at
the English L'Abri Fellowship, where much thought was being given to education.
After Susan was unable to continue with active involvement in Child Light Educational
Trust, she was supported by Elaine. During this time, they forged important
links with the PNEU, the Charlotte Mason College Association, and individual
schools and headteachers over many years. An International Conference in Ambleside
(at the then named Charlotte Mason College) drew together invited participants
from several continents to meet the educational philosophy, practice, and practitioners
of Charlotte Mason's unique approach to education. Since that time, schools
in the USA have proliferated, and we look forward to the continuing of the
PNEU in the United Kingdom. Books have been written describing CM's ideas and
offering guidelines through Child Light/Crossway, and several old books have
been reprinted. Elaine hopes to keep well connected with the growing work in
the USA.
Megan Hoyt
A certified teacher and freelance writer, Megan Hoyt has endeavored to bring the humanities to life for her children
and the families of the homeschool group she co-created, CMeLearn. The daughter of symphony musicians, Megan was
raised backstage at the opera, ballet, and music hall. This blend of experiential learning with exposure to great
works of music has made her increasingly aware of the desperate needs within our nation's schools for quality arts
study and outreach. She is also committed to bringing the "atmosphere" of a Charlotte Mason education to families and
schools worldwide by showing them how to craft learning environments that are unique and specially adapted to help children
retain the skills and subject matter they are taking on. Another of her goals is to influence modern American teen culture
by bringing Charlotte Mason's ideas regarding beauty and nobility to the masses, helping kids choose to live magnanimously
by engaging them in group discussions where real learning takes place. Megan has earned an M.A. in Theology from Regent
University in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and a B.A. with double majors in English and History from Southern Methodist University
in Dallas, Texas. She currently resides in Charlotte, North Carolina, with her husband, Steven, and their four children.
